Maud,
daughter of Sir John Hotham IX, was possibly by his first wife, Isabel
Hastings. Maud married Thomas Metham of Metham, esquire, grandson of her
mother’s second husband [1].
Saltmarshe says that the wedding took place about 1503, but In 1493-4, the
steward of Pickering forest gave a stag to John Hotham, esquire for the wedding
of his daughter [2].
It is possible that Maud was this daughter.
In Hilary term 1529, Thomas
Metham, of Metham, esquire, and Matilda his wife sued Elizabeth Conyers, of Kirkby
Fleetham, widow and John Conyers of Kirkby Fleetham, gentleman, executors of
William Conyers, of Kirkby Fleetham, gentleman [3].
It is possible that after the death of Sir Thomas Metham in 1514, his widow,
Elizabeth Constable married William Conyers.
Thomas Metham was knighted on 24
May 1533 at Greenwich the day before the Coronation of Queen Anne Boleyn [4].
He died on 25 March 1539.
